Why build a static HTML website in 2026?

You might be wondering why anyone would build a static website in the year 2026 when fancypants alternatives have been available for like a million years. "Didn't this used to be a WordPress?" you ask. Yes, it was. And now it isn't any more. Yay!

My reasoning:

It's fast!

Less loading time since there's nothing much to it!

It's accessible!

Easier for folks with screen readers or other tools to move around it. Also, as someone who has migraines and vestibular issues, I personally always appreciate when a website doesn't have things whooshing around unnecessarily.

It's secure!

Can't hack your database when you don't have one. Also I am so sick of bot spam. I have become the old man yelling at clouds meme.

It's fun!

Honestly, it's just fun to do. Remember when the internet was fun? Reject modernity, return to GeoCities.
